Ok map is up on Kickstarter.

A few questions pop up immediately

1 What a nice perfectly circular inland sea. Whatever happened to create that in the middle of a mountain region.

2 Will the pig?/fish? ever get to eat that little island to to the left ??

I present you with all my apologies for the severity of my opinion.

To be honest and because I draw fantasy map,  I feel this one very ropy...

There's no relief and no logic in the landscape, in the river flow or even in that round sea...
Anyway,  I think I won't use it.
mY2Cent$...

Well, I too see the pig and the fish...

No need to apologize Morkhdull, everyone has the right to have his opinion.

Of course I am very sorry you don't like the map but I guess there is some part of subjectivity and we can't please everyone.

All I can say is that there is an explanation to the round sea  😉

I can see the central lake/sea being formed by an asteroid or volcano (or perhaps something a bit more exotic).  A bit too circular for it to be truly natural :).  I'm not a huge fan of the singular continent (never have been even with Numenera) but that is more of an aesthetic feel than anything in particular.

You're close enough with your explanation Phent  😉

I must say the reason we have one singular continent is related to the game mechanics, it's not really an aesthetic choice.

to mine mind this looks like first draft and lacks the consideration of time/history on the geography. The impact inland sea, which i’m guessing has to do with the ruling bloodlines, looks as if was only formed in the last couple of years. I hope it is a first draft and that as the team develop details on history of nations etc. that the map will be updated to reflect that.

Hi Bowlef,

Could you give an example of what you mean by that? What would you like to see that reflects the History of nations?

Thank you.

In my birthwrong campaign we have developed a map and included areas that have suffered from catastrophic effects. This has included salt flats running through forests. Other things could be dams artificial lakes, burn and salting ground, over harvested woods or the reverse. There is a Great many things that man has done that change geography even in our own history, for example where i live many centuries ago was a marsh land but with dikes a ditches is now renowned for being a flat and futile farm land. Hope this helps.

I see what you mean but it's just not clear to me how is it represented on a map. Maybe you could post an example? I don't recall ever seeing a map with elements such as the ones you just mentioned.

Also keep in mind that lots of things are not yet visible. Kingdoms and counties borders, roads, cities, havens, names and some decorative elements.

Well for me I see very large monolithical features: mountains, forest areas, hills are on a nationwide scale. It could be everything is still very zoomed out, but I would expect some smaller features.

Water seems to be flowing all directions, with no clear indication from the map why this is. Normally a continental divide can is rather visible

As for the Central Lake, well I suppose there will be a In game rationale for its perfect features. (Some magical artifact which prevents any tectonics within a 500 mile radius)

As for the history of nations, I wouldn't expect that to be visible on a map of this scale. Then again a number of natural borders are already visible

Point well made maybe i’m thinking too close up and some of what I am referring to is more in keeping with a closer view. I was really just trying to make the point that things on the map may need to change as the team works on the different nations.

Actually the team decided to adapt their work based on the map and not the other way around (I was also assuming it would be the opposite).

I think it will all make more sense once all the elements are visible. It will look much more lively.

In the mean time, don't hesitate to share maps you do like. Obviously Robert is not going to start from scratch but we might steal a few ideas if they're not too hard to add   😉

Thank you all for your feedback.

Heya!

A map's a map! Stories can be made anywhere!

My concern is the limited influence we of the small council seem to be given. on our countries 🙂
Perhaps we're just in phase one so far (and Erik chose the right one for me hands down). But I'm wondering if we get to choose where cities / towns etc are placed in our lands? Names of provinces? Change the preset name of our nations etc? I currently have no investment in the assigned name to Queen Nausicaa nation because I didn't get contribute to my country!
